While the Interdisciplinary Studies program does offer a diverse range of courses
that span both online and on-campus, not all advanced or supporting courses will be
accessible for online learning. However, by consulting with your academic advisor
we can provide you with options to tailor your academic experience to your personal
circumstances and learning style.
Upon graduation, what will it say on my diploma?
For either option — self-styled or recognized concentration — the degree awarded upon
completion of the program is a Master of Arts or a Master of Science in Interdisciplinary
Studies. If you select a recognized concentration, the names of existing official
concentrations will also be printed on your diploma.
How does a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies compare with a more traditional degree?
Interdisciplinary Studies degrees are flexible and individualized to your interests,
career objectives and skills you would like to develop; your degree will combine courses
from across the multiple disciplines. As a result, you may need to work a little harder
to explain your distinctive degree to your potential employer and demonstrate that
you possess the desirable and necessary skills needed to succeed. Interdisciplinary
Studies degrees emphasize a diverse and multifaceted curriculum, which can make you
a strong, well-rounded candidate adaptable to many positions.
Can I pursue my Ph.D. after completing my Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies?
Yes, you can! Our program helps numerous students who successfully complete their
Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (INSD) to further their academic
career by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in one of their previously chosen
fields of study. This exemplifies the scholarly potential and dedication to our interdisciplinary
students as they continue to deepen their knowledge and expertise in their specific
areas of interest.
If this is a goal you want to accomplish, please mention this with your INSD advisor
as they can provide guidance in preparing you for your next move.
